Nestled in the Sonoran Desert about an hour east of San Diego, Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel is a revitalized wellness-centric retreat built around the area’s natural mineral springs. Once a historic healing destination dating back to early 20th-century hot spring culture, the property has been tastefully restored into a boutique destination that feels both earthy and modern.

The hotel has 18 rooms and two suites as well as a few off-site guest houses and casitas, which make it a flexible choice for solo travelers, couples, or large groups. I ended up staying at one of their casitas, and it was one of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever stayed at.
The centerpiece of it all is the natural mineral-rich hot spring water. Guests staying at the hotel have exclusive access to certain pools like the Solstice Pool and the indoor Echo Room 24/7, while day passes are available for specific hours for visitors. Learn more about it here.
The casita I stayed in had much smaller but beautiful mineral pool, which was perfect for those private late nights underneath the stars.

At the heart of the hotel’s culinary scene is Long Shadow. Led by Executive Chef Leonardo Ceja, they’re known for their International High Desert cuisine with regional influences from the surrounding Imperial Valley and Baja California.
The menu changes from time to time but I love how their menu consistently highlights fresh, local produce, farm-to-table ingredients, and creative flavor pairings. I still find myself thinking about the ceviche I had during my time there.
Nearby is their exotic desert hideaway, the Jacumba Bar. Their specialization lies in high desert elixirs, herbal tinctures, cold-pressed juices, tonics, and creative craft cocktails alongside a full selection of beer and wine.

Everything about this getaway was breathtaking – from the casita’s furnishings to the delicious desert cuisine. While it might not be for everyone, the remote-ness of the space also added to the magic of the hotel. You can’t help but be present and to me, that’s what it truly means to be on holiday.

Just walking distance from the casita, the ruins are now used by the hotel and local community for candlelit music gatherings and performances under the desert sky.

A quiet contrast to the surrounding rugged landscape, the lake is framed by open skies and distant mountains. The warm water creates a soft, reflective focal point in an otherwise earthy, sun-washed environment.

Known as one of the area’s most memorable roadside sights, the retro desert gas station feels like a scene pulled straight from a vintage California road trip. It’s unexpected, a little nostalgic, and entirely unforgettable.
