What is Email Whitelisting & How to Fix it

THANK YOU FOR SUBSCRIBING TO MINIMALIST MAXIMALIST!

I’m so glad you’re here! You’re already on your way to feeling + looking your best, but first things first…

Many e-mail and Internet companies are now using programs to block unwanted e-mail, often called spam. Sometimes many of these programs block e-mails you want to get, sadly. 😦

DO THE FOLLOWING TO ENSURE YOU RECEIVE MY EMAILS:

Be sure to add the corresponding Minimalist Maximalist email address to your email whitelist to ensure the best chance of receiving my content and updates.

So what exactly is a whitelist?

A whitelist is a list of e-mail addresses or domain names from which an e-mail blocking program will allow messages to be received. My emails will always be sent from the email address “theminimalistmaximalist@gmail.com” and appear with the name “Chrissy.”

Why is this important?

Unsolicited, unwanted advertising e-mail, commonly known as “spam”, has become a big problem. It’s reached such proportions that most e-mail services and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have put some sort of blocking or filtering system in place or begun relying on self-proclaimed blacklists to tell the good guys from the bad.

While it’s great to be protected from unnecessary spam who is she??, unfortunately the current systems for stopping spam are far from perfect. These systems often block e-mail subscriptions that you’ve subscribed to, but the majority of the time that fits somebody else’s idea, not yours, of what spam looks like.

In a nutshell, you’re not getting the content that you do want in your primary inbox.

But never fear- I’ll show you how you can prevent that so you can receive all your fave e-mails (including mine) where you want it.

While every e-mail system is different, below are instructions for some of the more popular ones. If yours isn’t here, please contact your ISP’s customer service folks for their instructions. (Forward the answer to me and I’ll add it below!).

Also, if you’re using some sort of spam filtering or blocking software yourself (in addition to what your ISP provides), I’ve also listed instructions on how to exempt your subscription from some of the more popular of those programs.

Gmail:

  1. In your inbox, locate an email from me, Chrissy, or Minimalist Maximalist (ex. the welcome email that led you to this page).
  2. Drag this email to the “primary” tab of your inbox.
  3. Bingo! After doing this easy step, you’ll see that my emails will go to your primary folder in the future!

Yahoo! Mail:

When opening an email message, a “+” symbol should display next to From: and the sender’s name. Select this and an “Add to contacts” pop-up should appear. Select “Save”:

Outlook 2003 & Later:

  • Right-click on the message in your inbox.
  • Select “Junk E-mail” from the menu.
  • Click “Add Sender to Safe Senders List.”

Hopefully this short tutorial helps! If you have any questions, email me at theminimalistmaximalist@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you ASAP!
